Active Engagement- The last few days of school are often the hardest.  Students are struggling with separation and staff are trying to get things packed up.  We need to keep kids actively engaged in learning.  This diminishes behavior challenges.  When students have " busy" work they tend to  find alternatives that are not positive.  Just like at the start of the year be explicit in your expectations.  When you want students to line up make sure you have established a clear expectation in a positive manner and allowed sufficient time to line up.  Engaging students in learning and sharing positive expectations before a request will result in positive behaviors.

Reading Day - Thank you to Deb & Karin for creating our reading day activities.  Please refer to their email for specifics.  It is exciting to know that our students will go home with a book for the summer.

Goodbyes - On Wednesday there will be many goodbyes.  Goodbye signifies the end of something and the beginning of something else.  Our sixth graders will be moving on to junior high.  They are prepared for this next stage of their education due to ALL of your hard work.  The high level of collaboration, problem solving, and support for each other is what has enabled our students to succeed.  It has been my honor and privilege to work along side you to help students.  The only way I will survive Wednesday is by not getting emotional.  I am sure a few tears will sneak out but I will do my best to control them.  Please know that inside I am crying with each goodbye hug. Thank you for supporting me on my journey to grow as a better leader.  I will take a part of each of you with me to Qatar.

Thank You- To everyone that was able to turn out for McTeacher night.  It was great to see the families of our staff members too!  Supporting each other is one of the things we do best at Sunrise.  I loved seeing everyone's children with their spouses.

Dibels Testing - DORF testing is in the gym.  Wanda has put the schedule together.  Please remember to have your students bring a book to read while they are waiting their turn.  Thank you for being flexible with your schedule.  If the team is running ahead of schedule we need to take advantage of our volunteers when we have them.  Deb has been working with K-2 regarding the other Dibels Next Assessments.  I am excited to see the results of everyone's hard work this year.  Marta
shared with me earlier that she was a bit disappointed with her scores - students had not improved much from Winter - but then she realized that was because they had ALREADY met Spring Benchmark in the Winter and they really couldn't read the sounds any faster than they already had!

Volunteer Breakfast - Please make sure that you bring your food on Thursday for the breakfast.  It is so important that we HONOR all those that help us at Sunrise.  If you get an RSVP for the breakfast please get it turned in to the office so we have an accurate count.  If we have a big response we need to give the seating to our guests.  If there is space we need to be sitting with our guests.  Please do not create tables of staff.  Please spread yourselves out throughout the tables.  You WILL not be able to sit with just your volunteers.  We ALL need to thank these folks whether they worked directly with your students or not.  They are having a positive impact on Sunrise!

Looking Ahead - As I look at May 31 I ponder - was there anything else we could have scheduled on this day?  Make sure you set your students up for success by keeping some routines in place, reviewing expectations and PRAISING!

Monday Celebration -  Thank you to our Diversity Team for putting together a great event on Monday.  We are showcasing our own students and learning about other cultures.  Win-Win! Each
class will receive chopsticks to hand-out to students.  You may hand them out at lunch or at the end of the day.  Please remind students that they need to be appropriate with them or they will be taken away.  What a great turn out today for Henna Hands and Feet!

MSP - We have just four more tests to make up.  We will try and do this on Monday.  Thanks for the great efforts this year!  I know you will see the efforts from this year in the results next August.

McTeacher Night - Thank you to everyone for signing up for McTeacher night.  This will be a fun event.  Make sure to wear a Sunrise shirt or colors!

Wind Down - Gear Up- With the completion of the MSP and the approach of June we all begin to wind down.  This is when behaviors begin to wind up.  Please prepare students by reviewing PBIS
and also increasing the number of blue cards you give out.  We need to end our year on a positive tone - for ALL of us!

DAYS  - That is all we have left!  What will you do with 26 days?

Recess Reminders - First and second grades please remember to walk students around the front of the school by the playshed to enter and exit the playground during first recess on Tuesday.  This will enable classrooms to focus on testing.  Tina and Melissa can you please put cones up that show students that they may not go close to those
classrooms.  You can talk about this during the Monday Morning meeting.

Shining Stars - I want you to know I recognize how brightly our superstars shine throughout the district.  Whether it is science fair, cultural diversity fair, honor band/orch/chorus, growth in Dibels scores, academic progress over time.....The list just goes on and on!  Why is that?  ALL of you.  You are changing the lives of students and putting them on a track that leads towards a bright future.  You make our Superstars Shine - Thank You!

To The Point - We know our superstars will do a number on their pencils during testing.  Over 250 students can be testing on any given day.  That means more than 500 pencils are needed.  In your tub you will be given pencils on the first day that are sharpened.  After that you need to keep your pencils and make sure they are sharpened and ready to go for your next day of testing.  When testing is complete the pencils are yours to keep!

Parking- Please try and park in the spaces connected to the bus zone in the front of the school and in the back of the building.  We have so many staff members now that we have no parking available for
parents when they pick students up after school.  If you leave or arrive during the school day you still need to park out in front.  We do not want vehicles driving in the back during school hours.  Hopefully this will help with student pick-up.

Staff Room - Thank you to everyone that cleans up after themselves, puts their dishes in the dishwasher and helps keep this room a place we would want to be.  A few staff members continue to
leave silverware or dishes in the sink and messes on the counter.  Please respect everyone by cleaning up after yourself.  We ALL have enough to clean up taking care of ourselves.

MSP - As we take the final week before MSP let's be sure that we are filling our students up with confidence.
